Get bulky!

There are many ways to turn your thin yarn into bulky yarn. I found ways I didn't know about
in my research down the rabbit hole. Some include: plying, which is twisting two or
more strands of yarn together in the opposite direction that they were spun. Carding, basically spinning. Using glue or hairgel, that one sounds messy. Felting, stabbing together strands of wool. Combining loopy/bumpy yarn with a plain smooth yarn. The list goes on.
With whatever way you choose be aware that it will effect characteristics of the yarn. It may be stiffer, less stretchy or not drape the same way.
My favorite way, I do well with mindless repetitive work, is the crotchet it into bulky yarn.
I found a bounty of yarn at an estate sale. This place had an entire room that had around 10 to 15 tubs full of yarn. It was loads of fun picking through everything. Myself and another lady kept showing each other things that we didn't want or already had a bunch of. I paid $30 on a storage tub full of yarn.
One of the types of yarn was a fuzzy, color stream stuff that normally I wouldn't buy because fuzzy yarn is a pain if you have to take your crochet project apart. But I figured I should fill up that tub!
This is the yarn I used to make my bulky yarn. Choose whatever kind you want and lets see if I can teach you!
Start by making your slip knot onto the crochet hook.
Chain between 6 and 10 stitches.
Take the yarn off of the needle and make that chain length into another slipknot.
Through the last chain you made from before, pul
l an arms length of yarn through. This sets you up with three stands that you will then chain into bulky yarn!
Super easy, super fun to do.
I'll post photos of the yarn I used and the project I'm turning the bulky yarn into, shortly here!
Happy Crocheting!
